What is the NDIS and how does it work?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for individuals with permanent disabilities to access necessary support services. It aims to enhance independence and participation in the community. Participants receive funding based on their specific needs and goals, which can be used for a variety of supports, including therapy, daily living assistance, and community access.

Who is eligible for NDIS funding?

To qualify for NDIS funding, you must:

  • Be aged between 7 and 65 years.

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Have a permanent disability that significantly impacts your ability to communicate, move, care for yourself, or manage daily life.

What types of support can I access through the NDIS?

The NDIS funds a range of supports deemed “reasonable and necessary” to help you achieve your goals. This includes:

  • Supported Independent Living (SIL)

  • Community Access programs

  • Assistance with Daily Living

  • Clinical services such as nursing care

  • Therapy services, transport assistance, and more.

How do I apply for the NDIS?

To apply for the NDIS, you need to fill out an Access Request Form and provide medical documentation regarding your disability. It’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or disability advocate to assist with your application.

Can I choose my service provider?
